24 HOUR CHARITY MATCH 2022
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th August
As I’m sure most of you will be well aware by now hosting the charity match at Lakeside is year is not an option, after considering various other venues it’s been decided that the charity match will be to relocated CRF and Tithe. This means a new format due to using multiple lakes and a perfect opportunity to offer something a little different for even more anglers to enjoy, while continuing to cater for the regulars who have supported the charity matches over the years.
24 Hour Matches: When you signup you will be asked to select which lake you want to fish. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that you will get to fish next to a friend in an adjacent swim (luck of the draw), but if you all sign up together you will be fishing the same lake so you can reel in and go help your friend land a fish or to socialise. While the new venues may not suit everyone, please bear in mind that this event is a charity match and we want you to enjoy the fishing. Each Lake will be its own smaller match and both the trophies (best weight and biggest carp) are still up for grabs.
Venues:
No need for keepnets: (24-hour match anglers only) This year for those fishing the 24 hour matches you can leave your keepnets at home. Instead, we will be setting up a tripod, scales, carp cradle and sling for you to weigh in your own fish so they can be returned to the lake as soon as possible. On most of the lakes there will be two sets to minimise the distance you need to walk to weigh in your fish plus you may have also noticed that tench will also count towards your final weight. When you catch a tench or carp, please reel in your other rod then make your way to the nearest set of scales to weigh in. The nearest angler to the scales will need to verify and record the weight then return to your peg to release your fish. If you need any assistance day or night, please contact one of the match officials who will visit you as soon as possible, we will be based by Tithe bottom lake.
Signing up – Securing your place: Bookings will be strictly on a first come first served basis. I will keep the forums up to date with the numbers of spaces per lake which are still free. Once a lake is fully booked that is it (no reserves). If for whatever reason if you are not able to make it please let me know as soon as possible so I can update the forums so someone else has a chance to fish the match.
Match times: The other change this year is the match times, the draw will take place at 10am at both CRF and Tithe. After the draw you can head off to the peg you have drawn and start setting up and then at midday the match will start. Like last year the match officials will be walking round on a regular basis, at some point Saturday afternoon we will be round to collect your entrance fee (£10 for members, £15 for guests of members), sell you raffle tickets and let you know what we are offering food wise from our BBQ if you wish to make a donation.
Sunday Midday the match will finish: At 15:00 hours we will be holding the trophy presentation and raffle at Tithe, so bring a chair and your raffle tickets. Another change this year will be we are going back to the old way of running the raffle. If you have a winning ticket, you can walk up to select the prize you want which I know I lot of people enjoyed over the years. If you are unable to attend then a prize will be chosen for you.

The cost will be £10 for members, £15 for guests of members, the entrance fee will be collected on the day before the start of the matches. If you invite a guest, you will be responsible for them and ensuring that they know and follow our rules.

Raffle tickets will be on sale over the whole weekend by the barn on Tithe Bottom Lake. Visitors over the weekend please park down by Tithe barn and walk up the track as there will be very limited parking within Tithe complex over the weekend.

Charity Match Rules:
FISH WELFARE IS THE TOP PRIORITY SO PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES.
GENERAL RULES
• All PDAS general rules and lake rules still apply for this match. Although some rules have been relaxed to allow you to socialise with others nearby this doesn’t mean that all the rules have been relaxed so if in doubt check your handbook or ask a match official.
• All anglers will need a suitable landing / unhooking mat / cradle laid out ready throughout the match.
• Every angler must have fish care treatment.
• Hammers / Mallets are banned and should not be used.
• Strictly no alcohol or drugs.
• All anglers must have a valid EA licence.
• No floating baits, no surface fishing.
• PDAS Members who have invited a guest will be responsible for their guests / non-members conduct.
• Please respect the anglers on either side of you during the match. If in doubt on the limits of your swim discuss it with your neighbour before the start of the match.
• Please ensure your swim is clear of all litter before leaving. The warden and bailiffs spend hours keeping PDAS waters looking good for us all so please take all your rubbish home.
• This is a friendly match for charity and the main PDAS social event of the year, but this does not mean you can wonder off leaving your rods unattended even if you have a remote bite alarm’s. Reel in and remove the bait first.
• Please respect your neighbours in terms of noise levels especially overnight. This includes the volume of your bite alarms. • Bait – there is a 1kg limit over the 24 hours.
• Toilet – By the side of the barn (bottom lake) there is a portaloo.
MATCH RULES
• Two rods maximum per angler.
• Any anglers suspected of cheating by giving their fish to another angler will be disqualified and asked to leave or otherwise penalised by the match officials.
• All fish must be weigh-in using the scales provided and witnessed to verify the weights.
• No pre-baiting or flavouring the water before the start of the match.
• You are allowed to plum up or cast out to clip up if casting to a feature or at range prior to the match starting.
• If you happen to be playing a fish at the time the final whistle is blown it will still count. During regular matches it is customary to call out “Fish on” to let the other anglers around you know that you are still playing a fish.
FISH WELFARE – COMMON SENSE
• Please remember if it’s hot to wet your unhooking mat or cradle to cool it down before using it.
• The match officials will walk round regularly to check everyone is enjoying themselves. If you need an official call us and someone will be with as soon as possible to assist.
PARKING
• Please be considerate of others when parking. Due to the limited parking at Tithe some anglers may need to park down in the Tithe Barn carpark. Tithe bottom will be busy at times and access will be needed.
• CRF (24 hr anglers) please park in the main car park as other events will be taking place over the weekend on lake 4.

BBQ: At this time the aim will be to repeat what we did last year, we will take your order and then deliver it to you in your swim. While the food will be free again, please consider making a donation 100% of which will be going to the charity.
PEGGING: Pegging will be determined by means of a draw.

SPECIES MATCHES CRF LAKE 4
Sat 12th Aug(6-hour match)
In the immortal words of Monty Python, “and now for something completely different” Instead of hosting a normal format match trying to catch the best weight, this match will be species matches in the hope it will attract more anglers who may not wish to fish overnight or just fancy the challenge of trying to catch as many species as they can within a set time limit.
Each angler sets up a keepnet in a swim (some keepnets will be available if you do not own one). At the start of the match the anglers can move around the lake to fish any peg. Each angler must have a suitable net/mat with them at all times and I would strongly recommend bringing a folding chair as six hours on your feet fishing is a long time.
On catching a fish, first you should decide if you want to keep it by putting it in your keepnet or release it back into the lake and try to catch a bigger fish of that type. The only exception would be a carp (not to be put in a keepnet), if you want to log the carp as your entry it needs to be weigh-in and witnessed by another angler before being returned to the lake.
A simple checklist will be provided to assist each angler so you can tick off the species you have caught.
Just for reference CRF Lake 4 is a mixed fishery containing the following:
Determining the winner: At the end of the match if one person has caught more species than everyone else, then they will be declared the winner. In the event of a draw on the number of species, the two or more anglers compare the weights of each species they have caught to determine who the overall winner is. If its still a tie then the person who caught the heavier carp will win.
In the event an angler puts for example two roach into his/her keepnet the smaller of the two will be counted.
The idea for this match is to add an extra element of fun, while there is nothing preventing you from fishing the same peg if another angler decides to join you, they may do so. So please do not bring a seat box with all the side trays etc, the idea is to fish light. Please be respectful and give each other plenty of space especially if someone is playing a fish. While I do not want to set fixed time limits on fishing the same swim, the intention is that you move around the lake so I would suggest after 30 mins, try somewhere else then come back later and try again if others want to use that peg.
A few of us have tried a version of this format before and I can tell you its not as easy as it sounds to catch one of each species, plus you then have to decide if the species you have caught is one of the better weight fish of its type before you place it in your keepnet.
Cost to Enter £10 The match is set to start at 11am, you then have up to six hours to do your best. If you decide to stop after say three hours, please let a match official know so we can record what you have caught.
