Divers at Funtley 12th and 13th March 2022

Please be aware that Pegs 13, 14, 1 and 2 will be closed for the whole weekend as we have divers looking at removing some of the snags. South end of the lake will be open, but no casting towards this area please. We hope to work round the rest of the lake at later dates. We doubt we can remove them all, but we will remap those we can’t. Anyone wishing to help with pulling bits out would be welcomed. No spectators please there will be machinery movements and some areas will be very tight to access.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sinah – Swim Closure

Please be aware that swim 21/Littlesteps at Sinah is closed until further notice. This is until we can remove a dead branch which is directly over head in the swim. This has only come to light due to the bad winds we are currently having. In order to keep people safe the swim is closed with immediate effect. Once the branch is removed we will reopen it. Thanks all

Brockhurst Moat – Azolla – Feb 2022

Unfortunately, Azolla has returned this year to Brockhurst Moat. it was prevalent on the moat several years back and then disappeared. It has started again around by the bridges and seems to be spreading fast. It is already in front of some of the fishing stations. Members are reminded to wash and dry their fishing equipment thoroughly to prevent the spread of this invasive and annoying floating weed.

Thank you all for your support

Lakeside Update 8th Feb 2022

Lakeside continues to be a concern however recently the situation seems to have stabilised a bit. The initial findings from the investigations into the fish mortalities indicate that environmental conditions are to blame. This includes a high abundance of algae. Further diagnostics are being carried out by the EA and the club will continue to monitor the water and the remaining fish. Further detailed results will take a few weeks and the club will continue to publish updates as soon as they can. The fishery will not reopen until the conditions have subsided and the fish have had a chance to recover.

Lakeside Update – 1st Feb 2022

As you all may be aware, our Lakeside fishery has recently suffered some extremely large fish mortalities. The species most affected has been carp but a few roach and bream have also died. There has been upwards of 500 deaths so far and the full impact is not known. The water appears to be still suffering and more deaths are likely. We have been working closely with the EA to establish the root cause of the problem, and to this end several surviving fish have been transported alive to the EA labs in Brampton. We have also contacted Portsmouth University experts who are also going to help us assess the fishery. We will await all the findings and any recommendations before we can make any further decisions or plans.

We are closing fishing on the water until further notice. This will prevent any further stress being put on surviving fish when they return to feeding. We would like to remind anyone who has fished Lakeside this year to make sure that their fishing equipment is cleaned and dried before using it on any other water.

We will provide more information as soon as we know any more. Thank you all for your support.

Lakeside Issues – 31st Jan 2022

The PDAS would like to make the membership aware that there has been a fish loss incident at our Lakeside Fishery. The EA are fully involved and are at present analysing the water and fish for the cause of death. At present the Lake remains open but members should be aware that the fish maybe not feeding presently in these conditions.

Further updates will be made once the results have been analysed and reported from E.A
